Welcome to the website of the Beta Omega Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, celebrating 116 years at The Ohio State University.

ATO was founded in 1865 by three Confederate Civil War cadets. The goal of Alpha Tau Omega was to help unite men of both Northern and Southern descent in peace. ATO is based on Christian rather than Greek principles. Through the years ATO has initiated over 225,000 people around the world. Currently Alpha Tau Omega has over 160 chapters in the United States. This year, 2008, ATO marks 116 years on the campus The Ohio State University, excelling in areas such as brotherhood, academics, athletics, service, and leadership. Rock the Block Site Leaders

During Greek Week each year, there is a large scale event called Rock The Block- where all Greeks go volunteer to pick up trash around the campus. This year, we have 5 ATO’s signed up as Site Leaders- who lead the various groups around. This accounts for HALF of all the site leaders. The ATO Presence will be felt to the highest degree.

Operation Buckeye Commitment

We have renewed our commitment to Operation Buckeye this quarter, lead by Brother Young. Eric Young will be working closely with Jim Caronis (Our Chapter Advisor) to continue to send care packages to our troops over seas. Its always amazing to see replies sent by the troops when they send letters back.

Promoting USG Elections

Our brothers have been heavily involved in promoting Pro Greek Undergraduate Student Government candidates. We are hanging banners, sending out invites, as well as having the candidates speak at various Greek Chapters. There are widespread changes coming to campus -most notably a 2 year requirement to live in campus housing. The Greek Candidates plan on allowing an exception to individuals for the second year to live in Greek Houses. This could be huge for the Greek Community, so ATO has taken it upon itself ot make sure it happens.

Spring Philanthropy Brainstorming

Our chapter has been planning a Spring philanthropy in order to find a way to give back to the community during this quarter. After brain storming ideas, Doug Flowers, who is a transfer student from the University of Cincinnati, came up with the simple idea of “Tank a Tau” - the idea cosisting of setting up a dunk tank outside the chapter house and allowing students to pay for balls to, literally, “dunk” a member of ATO. The idea is simple enought that we are able to put it together in a short amount of time, but has the potential to turn into a much bigger idea that we have also been planning - a Spring Circus. The idea being to rent out a ferris wheel, have a cotton candy machine as well a few other attractions at the house in preparation for a social event. However, in the morning and afternoon, we would contact several orphanages/mentor programs and have them bring the kids out to enjoy a free festival sponsored by ATO.

Casino Night Recognized (4/8/2009)

Most recently, the Ohio Union Activities Board has begun posting opportunities for all its active members during its general body meetings - an organization that has 150+ members. ATO recently was recognized on this presentation for its past event (Casino Night) and given a great chance at free advertisement.

Diversity Retreat

As a chapter, we are dedicated to improving our administration and offering opportunity to all those active members. Recently, the opportunity to send one member to the Vice President’s Diversity Retreat came up and I was selected to go. The retreat takes place over Saturday and Sunday (4/18 and 4/19), and occurs at a scenic retreat center not far from campus. This is an opporunity for our chapter that I am excited to be a part of and look forward to bringing something back that will benefit the rest of my ATO brothers.

Dental Care-Brother Desmond

I work for a non-profit that administers an after school program at a local inner-city school. Brother Desmond took time out of his busy schedule to present to my after school children the importance of proper dental care. He was wonderful. He had the children totally engaged and was very professional. He then surprised me and my co-workers by offering to provide a dental screen for all the children present and provide recommendations for their care. His entire program was simply amazing.

Campus Clean

Beta Omega is currently participating in Campus Clean. This means that we are given a designated area for the quarter and are responsible for going and cleaning it up every Sunday. Typically we get 5 members along with the two co-chairs and go Sunday afternoon to our area. This Sunday we went for the first time and our area looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. We spent three hours cleaning it, filling over ten large trash bags. The next day, I got an email from the head of Campus Clean thanking us for the hard work we put in. He said he knew how dirty that part of campus was and was amazed how clean it was when he saw it.

To bind men together in a brotherhood based upon eternal and immutable principles, with a bond as strong as right itself, and as lasting as humanity; to know no north, no south, no east, no west, but to know man as man, to teach that true men the world over should stand together and contend for supremacy of good over evil; to teach not politics, but morals; to foster not partisanship, but the recognition of true merit wherever found; to have no narrower limits within which to work together for the elevation of man than the outlines of the world; these were the thoughts and hopes uppermost in the minds of the founders of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
