Philanthropy
A major component of Alpha Tau Omega is the emphasis on philanthropy and community service. All brothers contribute with our own philanthropy, Casino Night, as well as volunteer for various community service projects, and also participate in other Greek philanthropies.
These numerous opportunities enable us to give back to the community and help raise a lot of money for a great cause, and leave us all with a profound sense of fun and fulfillment.
Casino Night
Casino Night is the event ran by the brothers of Alpha Tau Omega to benefit the Jim Tressel Family Fund for Cancer Research at the James. Over the past four short years, we have raised a great deal of money and have been fortunate enough to be able to donate over $30,000 to the outstanding foundation.
At Casino Night, money is raised through ticket sales, sponsorships, and various donations.
Guests at the event are dressed in semi formal attire, and treated to a myriad of Casino style games, such as black jack, Texas Hold’Em, roulette, and craps, among others. After spending the night gambling with the allotted fake money given upon entrance, guests can turn in their “winnings” for raffle tickets to a number of great prizes, which have included a great deal of autographed memorabilia, vacations, gift certificates, and a year’s supply of Cane’s.
The result is a fun, classy atmosphere that students, parents, and members of the local community can all enjoy.
Other Philanthropies
The Greek community is filled with great philanthropies, and we take every effort to participate in as many of them as possible. Many of these events are sports tournaments held by sororities, ranging from softball to basketball to volleyball, and much more. Some others include a tug-of-war – that takes place in the mud. Another example of an event is food sales, such as our “Kappa Dog Night” or “Flap Jack Frenzy.”
These events serve as a great opportunity to donate money to a number of causes, and an excellent chance to socialize with the Greek community.
Community Service
Each quarter, brothers are required to serve at least 15 hours of community service. Those service hours may come from a number of ways: preparing for Casino Night, running Casino Night, participating in other philanthropies, running Jericho Road Breakfast, an event ran by Alpha Tau Omega, and any other community service done individually by a brother.
With the countless opportunities, many of which are a blast to participate in, it is needless to say that it is fairly easy to fulfill any service requirements!

Fall 2008 Rush Information

To bind men together in a brotherhood based upon eternal and immutable principles, with a bond as strong as right itself, and as lasting as humanity; to know no north, no south, no east, no west, but to know man as man, to teach that true men the world over should stand together and contend for supremacy of good over evil; to teach not politics, but morals; to foster not partisanship, but the recognition of true merit wherever found; to have no narrower limits within which to work together for the elevation of man than the outlines of the world; these were the thoughts and hopes uppermost in the minds of the founders of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
